HSBC Online banking sucks!

Okay, this is not particularly related to Terra. But maybe it is. Reducing trips to bank etc.

This evening, while doing my regular fund transfers on online HSBC, I encountered a very very serious annoying problem with their service.

Very often with HSBC or any of the other banks for that matter, while you're conducting a transfer, sometimes their websites may fail or be under service or something along those lines and they'll put up some sort of an error message telling the transaction cannot be done and asking you to come back and try later.

That's what happened this time. I gave all the particulars, clicked confirm, ok. Service error. Come back later. Oklah. Few minutes later, try again. Confirm. Ok. Went through. Moved on to the next transaction. Checked balance.

*GASP*

The previous transaction went through twice! That transaction was worth over RM4K each! Ouch!

Called up to HSBC, they denied everything. Said it's the customer's (aka ME) fault. Told me to go talk with the beneficiary of the funds transferred to.

Service. Go fly kite. Angry angry angry.

  3. Now a days many banks are providing online Banking services. Here, the account is in the hand of consumer only, they can perform all transaction like shopping, tickets booking. According to me online banking sounds good because in case of normal banking they give use low rate of interest and we have to adjust time according to them as banks are working for limited hours only. so in online banking customer will no face any of the above problems. 4. HSBC!! Pain in the "s" ...
I really hope they will buck up their system.
It is very risky when conducting their online transfer to HSBC acct, doesn't show the beneficiary name at all!!!!!!!!
Also, we can't even key in the full name of beneficiary in MEPS GIRO transfer!!
And...and..and... I hate the Bkt Bintang branch, getting high blood pressure eversince the company signed up with them!

  5. OMG yeah! That's ANOTHER thing! They don't actually show beneficiary name. If we accidentally key in ONE number wrong, HABIS.At least MBB actually shows name first to confirm. I like that. Assurance is important. I don't understand why HSBC can't do that even for same bank account holders.

Banks are suppose to serve the customers. They are getting a heck of a lot of money from the deposit/loan spread, the interbank overnight loans, various 'charges' etc etc etc.

With online banking, the point is so they don't need to invest heavily in 'brick and mortar' banking which includes real estate, renovation, equipment, furnishings, staff etc. That's the initial point. That's MASSIVE savings. They should make life as easy as it is for US.

Yes, it's easy for us, but let's not forget, we are the customers. And the banks need to buck up to make sure that the customers' best interests are respected and taken cared of.

We must be as assertive as possible. This is our hard earned money!

  6. I would never recommend anyone to have an HSBC account. My experiences have been frustrating to the point of anger. Their fraud team are unhelpful, rude, dismissive, HSBC generally are impossible to contact by phone if you are not an HSBC customer, which make it hopeless if you are operating under a third party mandate. Branch staff I have had contact without were excellent but even they were critical of their own processes and restrictions in their operation. Awful experience.
